Pediatric Eye Exams at Eyes of the Marina Optometry
Carefully paced, age-appropriate exams starting at age five, with clear guidance for parents.

What We Look for During a Child’s Eye Exam
A child’s eye exam goes beyond reading an eye chart. We assess visual development, eye tracking, alignment, and refractive error, including early signs of myopia.
We also check how your child’s eyes are working together and whether their vision is supporting them in school and day-to-day tasks. Exams are paced to match the child’s attention span and comfort level, with time built in for questions.
Early Exams Matter for Children’s Vision
Undetected vision problems can lead to headaches, poor reading performance, difficulty with focus, or fatigue, especially if your child spends time on screens or struggles in class.
We see children starting at age five, and recommend annual exams throughout school years to track visual development and catch issues before they interfere with learning or growth.

Myopia Control & Monitoring in Marina Del Rey
If your child is nearsighted or progressing quickly, we may recommend a myopia control plan. These may include:
- Daily soft contact lenses for myopia management
- Ortho-k lenses (overnight corneal reshaping)
- Low-dose atropine drops (prescription only)
- Axial length monitoring to track changes over time
These treatments are fully managed in-office in Marina Del Rey and adjusted as your child's needs change with growth.
We Offer Supportive Pediatric Eye Exams
If you’re unsure whether your child needs an exam, or you’re noticing changes in how they see or focus, we’re here to take a closer look. Our pediatric exams are designed to be clear, age-appropriate, and tailored to the child's needs, with a pace that considers their comfort.
We’ll discuss what we find, explain what’s typical for their age, and guide you through any next steps, whether that’s a prescription, further monitoring, or simply reassurance.
