Glaucoma Management at Eyes of the Marina Optometry

Ongoing care that tracks subtle changes before they impact your vision.

Monitoring That’s Built Around Early Detection

Glaucoma typically develops slowly and without symptoms. Once damage to the optic nerve occurs, it can’t be reversed, which is why early detection and regular monitoring are essential.

At Eyes of the Marina Optometry, we provide in-office glaucoma screening and long-term monitoring. We assess risk factors, track small structural changes over time, and refer when needed for advanced care.

What We Monitor During a Glaucoma Screening

  • Intraocular pressure (IOP)
  • Optic nerve health and shape
  • Retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (via OCT)
  • Visual field changes when indicated
  • Relevant health history, including diabetes, myopia, and a family history of glaucoma

By tracking these over time, not just at isolated visits. We can spot trends early and adjust your care accordingly.

Who Should Be Monitored for Glaucoma

You may benefit from routine glaucoma screening if you:

  • Are over age 40
  • Have a family history of glaucoma
  • Have diabetes, high blood pressure, or are significantly nearsighted
  • Identify as Black, Hispanic/Latino, or Asian (due to increased risk)
  • Have elevated eye pressure or previously noted optic nerve changes

We’ll discuss your risk factors and create a plan tailored to your needs.
